Black Cod, also known as Sablefish, is a fine and large fish caught off the coast of Alaska and Canada. It is a deep-sea fish species commonly found in the North Pacific Ocean. Our Black Cod Steaks are Alaska RFM certified which means that the Black Cod fishes are sustainably caught in a well-managed fishery in Southeast Alaska. Interestingly, it has no connections to the Cod that we are familiar with in Europe.
The pearly white flesh of the Black Cod fish is soft-textured and mild in flavour. When cooked, the meat becomes flaky, much like the Patagonian Toothfish. Because its meat has a high fat content, it’s juicy and can be prepared in many ways. Most common are frying, grilling or smoking to bring their mild yet distinctive flavour.
Black Cod is a very nutritious fish. It has an excellent source of protein and essential nutrients, such as vitamin B12 and selenium. While low in saturated fat, cod is rich in omega-3 fatty acids that may help lower your risk of heart disease. On top of that, cod loins are very versatile and easy to prepare in the kitchen.
