What happens behind the scenes when you order our fresh mussels? In this blog we will give you an exclusive look in the process of harvesting our Holland Royal Blue mussels!
Welcome on board at Roem van Yerseke’s mussel boat. This boat has 3 captains on board and will sail to a specific place in the North Sea called Oosterschelde, where we can harvest a batch of mussels
From here, the first step is to lower the net into the water!
Yes! A good batch of mussels right into our net- that’s how we like it…
The next step is to empty the net on our fisher boat…
And with a great catch of the day, we can go back to land to process the mussels in the mussel factory!
Then the fresh mussels are washed and cleaned in a big cleaning machine.
All our mussels are sorted by hand, as there are different sizes of mussels and we only want the best mussels. This is an important part of the process!
There we go! Once sorted, they are vacuum-packed in our Holland Royal Blue mussels packaging and ready for us in Hong Kong!
After a cold flight of 12 hours (2-8 degrees), the only step we need to take is preparing the mussels any way you like them and enjoying our mussels to the fullest!
